What is it? Over the last several weeks, we have seen how the life-changing hope of the Gospel leads us to “live strange.” Over the next two months we want to live strange through our generosity and compassion. Specifically, we hope to give away a significant amount of food, resources, and money to bless our local community and support mission work around the world. Below is a description of a few pieces of this EPIC Give that relate specifically to the next few weeks. In short we will be giving away thousands of dollars to feed families, sponsor poverty stricken children, support our local schools, reach unreached people groups, and support mission work and church planting. You can donate through the offering on Sunday morning or online here.
Thanksgiving Baskets: Each year we support families of the Aberdeen Community by providing Thanksgiving meals and additional food. We coordinate with the local schools to connect with these families. There are two ways to help. First, you can give via an offering envelope or online to support one or more families. The cost is to be approximately $97 per family. Second, you can volunteer to be part of the shopping, packing and delivery of food during the day on Monday, November 20th. Use your Response Card to sign up!
Lightshine: Lightshine is a ministry with a heart to reach the Tarahumara Indians, an unreached people group in Central Mexico. LightShine brings the hope of the gospel through children’s programs that meet the needs of Tarahumara families who live in poverty stricken slums in the city of Chihuahua, Mexico. LightShine also operates an orphanage for abused, neglected, and abandoned Tarahumara children. We are partnering with this ministry to send teams, start a ministry in a new community, and sponsor children. We will hear from the director of Lightshine during next week’s service.
Aberdeen Middle School Holiday Store: AMS utilizes a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) Program for their students. (More info can be found at the Welcome Desk) As part of this program, students can earn Eagle Bucks, and then can use them to “purchase” special items from the School Store. Additionally, AMS provides a “Holiday Store” as part of their school store. This is a place where students (especially students from families facing struggles) can purchase gifts for family members, friends, etc. The administration has found this to be a huge blessing for the families, as the students have the opportunity to practice the act of giving…focusing on others during the holidays. Through the month of November, we will be asking individuals to donate new or “like new” (gently used) items. Items can be brought to Sunday morning service and collected in the Welcome Area. Throughout December, we have the opportunity to have volunteers from EPIC go to Aberdeen Middle School and assist with the school store. This is a great chance to have a presence in the school, and build connections with students and staff.
