June 24- July 1
EPIC Community Church’s Mexico Short Term Missions Team will partner with LightShine, a ministry with a heart to reach the Tarahumara Indians. The Tarahumara are an unreached people group who reside in the Sierra of Central Mexico. They are an incredibly resilient and peaceful culture who prides themselves on their running ability. As proud as they are, they are also a people without hope, as many struggle with high infant mortality rates, rampant child abuse, alcoholism, discrimination, and segregation. LightShine brings the hope of the gospel through children’s programs that meet the needs of Tarahumara families who live in povertystricken slums in the city of Chihuahua, Mexico. In addition to their work in the communities, LightShine also operates a small orphanage for abused, neglected, and abandoned Tarahumara children, and is in the process of starting a Christian foster care program.
EPIC’s Missions Team Members will work with each of the LightShine programs as we seek to understand the ministry’s vision and develop a heart for the Tarahumara people. Our mission’s team will learn how to work side by side with the indigenous people and focus on building relationships with both the staff and the Tarahumara. In addition to building relationships and learning about the community, we will also serve as a Vision Trip and explore opportunities to forge long-term partnership opportunities between EPIC and LightShine.
