The Idol Of Pleasure

In 1985, Neil Postman warned that a culture addicted to amusement would lose the ability to think deeply, and in many ways his prediction has come true. In Philippians 3, Paul describes people whose “god is their belly,” meaning they are ruled by their appetites and have their minds set on earthly things rather than eternal realities. This message examines how the idol of pleasure enslaves, distracts, and ultimately fails to satisfy, while the Gospel frees us to enjoy God's gifts without worshiping them. Rather than trying to build paradise here and now, Christians are called to wait for Christ, who alone can satisfy the deepest longings of the human heart and who will one day bring paradise with Him.
