Worshiping The God Who Is Not Safe, But Good

2 Samuel 6 contains one of the strangest and most unsettling stories in the Bible: a man reaches out to steady the ark of God and is struck dead. Many skeptics point to this and say, “See— the God of the Bible is vengeful and spiteful.” Yet if you understand the story of the ark, you begin to understand the story of the Bible itself—and you see the character of God who is both holy and gracious. This story helps us grasp who God truly is, warns us against domesticating Him, invites us into the joy of His presence, and calls us to worship Him with our whole hearts.
